Broadband phase noise suppression in a Yb-fiber frequency comb.
We report a simple technique to suppress high-frequency phase noise of a Yb-based fiber optical frequency comb using an active intensity noise servo. Out-of-loop measurements of the phase noise using an optical heterodyne beat with a cw laser show suppression of phase noise by ≥7 dB out to Fourier frequencies of 100 kHz with a unity-gain crossing of ∼700 kHz. These results are enabled by the st...
متن کاملGamma Radiation Effects in Yb-Doped Optical Fiber
Determination of the radiation response of doped-fiber laser materials, systems and components to relevant ionizing radiation fluxes is central to the prediction of long-term fiber-based laser performance/survivability in adverse and/or space-based environments. It is well known that optical elements that are placed into orbit around the Earth experience harsh radiation environments that origin...
متن کاملOptical frequency comb generation with ultra-narrow spectral lines.
We demonstrate an optical comb source that generates 550 ultra-narrow spectral lines with a spectral linewidth of 1.5-3 kHz, spanning over the C-band. The source originates from a single-mode Brillouin laser processed with phase modulation, pulse compression, and four-wave mixing. As a result, the narrow linewidth of the Brillouin laser improves the phase noise of every spectral line of the fre...
متن کاملOptical frequency comb technology for ultra-broadband radio-frequency photonics
A R TI CL E Abstract The outstanding phase-noise performance of optical frequency combs has led to a revolution in optical synthesis and metrology, covering a myriad of applications, from molecular spectroscopy to laser ranging and optical communications. However, the ideal characteristics of an optical frequency comb are application dependent. In this review, the different techniques for the g...
متن کاملFrequency stability measurement of a transfer-cavity-stabilized diode laser by using an optical frequency comb
We report results of frequency stability measurements of an extended cavity diode laser (ECDL) whose frequency is stabilized by a non-evacuated scanning transfer cavity. The transfer cavity is locked to a commercial frequency stabilized helium-neon laser. Frequency stability is measured by use of an optical frequency comb. The environmental perturbations (variations of temperature, air pressure...
